METV Cost 2026: $200 Consular Fee + Service from $300
The METV (multiple entry tourist visa) costs two main amounts in 2026: a consular fee and our service fee. At the Thai consulate in Ho Chi Minh City the consular fee is USD 200. Our service starts from USD 300, paid in full in advance. If you extend a stay inside Thailand, the extension currently costs 1,900 THB for each entry. On top of that you pay for the trip to the filing country.
Below is every line of the cost, the reason other blogs say "5,000 THB", and a comparison with visa-free entry, SETV and DTV. For the rules, read our full METV guide. Prices are as of 21 October 2026.

The consular fee and our fee are two separate payments. We tell you the exact consular amount for your mission before you pay anything.
The consular fee depends on the mission
The consular fee is set by each Thai mission, in its own currency. Here is what we can confirm from official sources:
- Ho Chi Minh City: USD 200 for a multiple entry tourist visa (USD 40 for single entry). This comes from the consulate's fee announcement of 15 July 2024 and its Tourist Visa page, updated 1 April 2025. The page says payment is by debit or credit card.
- Los Angeles: USD 200, according to the embassy's page updated 9 October 2023.
- India: INR 13,500 from 27 April 2026, for missions in India only. According to Travel Trade Journal (18 April 2026), this was part of a fee revision in India.
- Hanoi and Jakarta: we could not confirm an official METV fee for these missions, so we do not quote one. We clarify the amount for your mission before payment.
Why blogs say "5,000 THB"
Many blogs list METV at 5,000 THB, as if it were one universal price. It is not. Missions charge in local currency and the amounts differ. The Indian revision of 27 April 2026 applies only to missions in India, but it is sometimes repeated as a worldwide change. For the Ho Chi Minh City consulate the official figure is USD 200.
Extension: 1,900 THB for each entry
An METV is valid for 6 months and allows 60 days per entry. Inside Thailand you can ask Immigration for one extension of up to 30 days per entry (form TM.7). The Bangkok Immigration page confirms one extension of no more than 30 days. It does not list the tourist fee, so the amount comes from other sources: currently 1,900 THB, according to Thaiger (15 September 2026).
Each entry needs its own extension and fee, so three extended entries mean 3 × 1,900 THB. The extension is optional and the officer decides. Citizens of Sri Lanka, India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Iran, Nepal, Togo, Nigeria and Uganda receive extensions of no more than 7 days (Bangkok Immigration).
Entering again requires leaving first, so the exits between entries are a travel cost too. The TDAC arrival card is free, according to Thaiger (15 September 2026).
Our service and the filing trip
Our service starts from USD 300. You pay the whole amount in advance, and we work under a written contract. It includes:
- preparing the document package and filing it through e-Visa;
- help with missing documents: we help you assemble a complete package under the consulate's current requirements, and we do not make forged documents;
- a plan of entries and extensions for your dates;
- help with the trip: where to stay and how long to wait.
Processing takes about 7 working days in the filing country. If the application is refused, we resubmit it free of charge. Our work is free, while the consular fee is paid again for the new application.
We recommend filing from Vietnam (the consulate in Ho Chi Minh City or the embassy in Hanoi) or Indonesia (the embassy in Jakarta). In our experience, Sri Lanka, the Philippines and Malaysia also work. We file for clients who are not residents of the filing country. Details are in our guide on where to apply for METV abroad.
The trip is a real cost, so plan for it. The official portal says you can apply only while you are outside Thailand. Budget for flights, accommodation for about 7 working days and daily expenses. We name no figure, because it depends on where you start and how you travel.
METV compared with the alternatives
| Option | Official fee | What you get | Costs to add |
|---|---|---|---|
| Visa-free entry | None | 30 days per entry for the 60 countries and territories on the official list, from 15 September 2026 | Extension of 30 days: 1,900 THB (currently), at the officer's discretion. Border runs cost you the trip every time |
| SETV (single entry tourist visa) | USD 40 in Ho Chi Minh City | 3 months of validity, one entry, 60 days | Extension: 1,900 THB (currently). The filing trip |
| METV | USD 200 in Ho Chi Minh City | 6 months of validity, multiple entries, 60 days per entry | Our service from USD 300. 1,900 THB per extension. The filing trip |
| DTV | USD 340 in Ho Chi Minh City | 5 years, up to 180 days per entry | Our service from 8,000 THB. Only if you file in your country of citizenship or permanent residence |
The visa-free period was cut from 60 to 30 days from 15 September 2026, according to the Ho Chi Minh City consulate's official infographic. Thaiger (15 September 2026) adds a limit of two visa-free land entries per calendar year. For a short trip, visa-free entry costs nothing. If you plan several months with exits, compare it with METV in our guide to the 30-day exemption.
SETV costs less but covers one entry. DTV is a different product. Since 31 August 2026 it can be filed only in your country of citizenship or permanent residence, which we explain in the DTV home country rule. We still handle DTV for those who file from their own country. The DTV consular fee is separate, and our DTV service is from 8,000 THB. See the DTV cost breakdown.
Example budget for about 9 months
With three entries, each extended once, and the last entry made just before the visa expires, one METV covers about 270 days in Thailand. That is the outer limit, and the budget below follows that plan. The consular fee is for Ho Chi Minh City.
| Item | Currency | Amount |
|---|---|---|
| Consular fee | USD | 200 |
| Our service | USD | from 300 |
| USD subtotal | USD | from 500 |
| 3 extensions × 1,900 THB | THB | 5,700 |
| THB subtotal | THB | 5,700 |
| Trip to the filing country, about 7 working days | Your own cost | Flights, accommodation, daily expenses |
| Exits between entries | Your own cost | Flights or border crossings |
We do not convert the currencies into one total, because exchange rates move and the missions charge in their own currencies.
