Stay in Thailand from 9 months to 5 years

Visa-free is now 30 days, and the 5-year DTV can only be filed in your home country. If you're abroad, we file your METV, a 6-month multiple-entry tourist visa, from Vietnam or Indonesia. If you can apply at home, we handle your DTV. Written contract either way.

Where can you apply from?

Since 31 August 2026, a DTV can be filed only at the Thai embassy or consulate of the country where you are a citizen or permanent resident. If you can file there, the DTV is your visa. If not, the METV is.

METV 6-month multiple-entry tourist visa

I'm not in my home country right now

  • Up to 9 months in Thailand on one visa*
  • About 20,000 THB in funds, not 500,000. No employer letter, no police certificate
  • We file it from Vietnam or Indonesia through the official e-Visa system. No residency needed
  • You spend about 7 working days in the filing country while we file. Already in Vietnam or Indonesia? We file right where you are
from $300per person, plus the consular fee ($200 in Ho Chi Minh City) and your trip

If the consulate refuses, we file a second time free of charge

DTV Destination Thailand Visa, 5 years

I can apply from my home country

  • 5 years, up to 180 days per entry, plus a 180-day extension in Thailand
  • For remote work and freelancing, Muay Thai, cooking and other courses, medical treatment
  • Needs 500,000 THB in your bank account, proof of your purpose and a police certificate
  • Filed at the Thai embassy or consulate in your country
from 8,000 THBif your documents are ready; we name the full price before you pay. Consular fee separate

If the consulate refuses, we re-file or refund under the contract

* The visa is valid for 6 months. Each entry gives 60 days, and each stay can be extended by up to 30 days at the immigration officer's discretion, so three entries make about 9 months. Citizens of India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Iran, Nepal, Togo, Nigeria and Uganda can extend by 7 days at most.

Thailand visa rules that changed in 2026

  1. 15 September 2026

    Visa-free is now 30 days

Citizens of Russia, Germany, France, Israel, India, the UK, the US and many other countries get 30 days instead of 60. Immigration can usually extend a stay by 30 days, at the officer's discretion.

  2. 31 August 2026

DTV only from your home country

A DTV is filed only where you are a citizen or permanent resident, with a police certificate. That is why Vietnam no longer accepts DTV applications from non-residents. An METV is a different visa with a different route.

  3. 2026

    Immigration checks your travel history

Officers look at your passport history and can refuse an extension if your trips look like visa runs.

Why an METV can be filed from Vietnam but a DTV can't

The DTV rule is about who you are: only citizens and permanent residents of the filing country qualify. The tourist visa form asks where you are now, and the official e-Visa system sends it to the Thai mission that covers your current location.

Rules checked on 21 October 2026 against the Thai consulate in Ho Chi Minh City and the official e-Visa portal.

Consular fees are those of the Thai consulate in Ho Chi Minh City; other missions set their own. "Up to 9 months" on an METV means three entries of 60 days, each extended by up to 30 days, with two exits in between. Extensions are at the officer's discretion, and citizens of India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Iran, Nepal, Togo, Nigeria and Uganda can extend by 7 days at most.

What the contract covers

We are a private company, not a government agency. The decision on a visa is always the consulate's, and we never promise it. Here is what we fix in the contract for each visa.

If the consulate refuses

METV: we file a second time free of charge; the consular fee is paid again. DTV: we re-file or refund under the contract.

How you pay

METV: one payment upfront, from $300 per person. The consular fee goes to the consulate and is paid separately. DTV: 3,000 THB to start, then the rest in two equal parts, at filing and when the visa is issued.

What the fee covers

Choosing the country and mission, a document package built to the consulate's current list, help getting missing documents legally, the filing, and help with your trip.

After approval

A dated plan of entries and extensions, with checklists for every trip in and out of Thailand.

Get Thai Visa is operated by Thai Law Services, Bangkok. In business since 2022. Office: Stecon Tower, Sukhumvit 21 (meetings by appointment). We send a sample contract and company documents on WhatsApp on request.

You can file an METV yourself on the official e-Visa portal. People come to us when a mistake would cost them the consular fee and a trip.

What goes wrong when people file alone

  • Applying at the wrong embassy: a DTV now needs citizenship or permanent residence in that country.
  • Overstaying because visa-free was cut to 30 days.
  • A refusal over weak proof of funds, and the consular fee is lost.
  • Mistakes in the e-Visa form that lead to a refusal.

What people ask us most

I'm in Thailand now. Can I get the visa without leaving?

No. An METV can only be filed from outside Thailand, and a DTV only in your country of citizenship or permanent residence. So you need one trip: we file your METV from Vietnam or Indonesia in about 7 working days, and you come back to Thailand on the new visa.

How long do I stay abroad, and who pays for the trip?

About 7 working days in the country where we file. Weekends and local holidays come on top, so we pick the dates with you. Flights and accommodation are yours; we help with the dates and where to stay.

How much does it cost in total?

Our METV service is from $300 per person, paid in full before we start. Complex cases cost more, and we name the price before you pay. The consular fee is separate: $200 in Ho Chi Minh City. Example: $300 + $200 = from $500, plus your flights and hotel.

Do I need 500,000 THB and an employer letter for an METV?

No. The e-Visa portal lists a general minimum of 20,000 THB in funds and no employment documents. Some missions ask for more, and we tell you the exact figure before you pay. The DTV is different: 500,000 THB, proof of your purpose and a police certificate.

Do I have to live in Vietnam or Indonesia?

No. You come for the filing, and we file your METV there. It is a tourist visa, so no residence permit is needed. If you're already in Vietnam, Indonesia, Sri Lanka, the Philippines or Malaysia, you don't need to fly anywhere.

What if the consulate refuses?

For an METV we file a second time free of charge; the consular fee is paid again, because it goes to the consulate. For a DTV we re-file or refund under the contract. Nobody can promise a consul's decision, and neither do we.

Is it really 9 months?

It is the ceiling. The visa is valid for 6 months, each entry gives 60 days, and each stay can be extended by up to 30 days (1,900 THB) at the officer's discretion. Three entries, two exits and three extensions come to about 270 days. For citizens of India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Iran, Nepal, Togo, Nigeria and Uganda an extension is 7 days at most.

Can I work on an METV?

No. It is a tourist visa, and work is not allowed. If you work remotely and can file in your home country, look at the DTV.

Can I file it myself?

Yes, the e-Visa portal is open to everyone. What we add is the part around the form: the right mission, a package built to its current list, answers when the consulate asks for more, and a plan of entries and extensions. If you have everything ready and feel sure, file it yourself.

Why pay upfront? How do I know you won't disappear?

You sign a written contract with Thai Law Services, in business since 2022. Our office is at Stecon Tower, Sukhumvit 21, Bangkok, and you can come by appointment. We send a sample contract and company documents on WhatsApp on request.

Can my partner or child get a visa too?

For an METV each person files their own visa, and the price is per person. For a DTV, family members are added after the main applicant gets the visa, for a separate fee.

My stay ends soon. What do I do first?

Send us the date. The Ho Chi Minh City consulate advises applying at least 2 weeks before you need the visa. If time is short, Immigration can often extend your current stay by 30 days, at the officer's discretion. Never stay past your date.
